These days it is getting more and more difficult for small businesses to get their message across to the competitive marketplace. This is where big brands hold the advantage over small businesses. Especially after Google’s announcement of giving extra care to big brands in regards to SEO (Search Engine Optimisation).
So how will small companies compete with the big brands?? Google might have said they will be giving extra care to big brands but to be honest I haven’t really seen any changes in Google for my recent searches, so not sure what it is all about. For me I believe that small businesses can still compete with the big brands through many marketing tools, one way is by Google’s very own pay per click campaign called Adwords. This gives an opportunity for small companies who are in competitive businesses such as promotional products, cars, insurance, gambling and many more.
There are many ways in which a company can look to promote their services and products. I would like to put it in two categories one is through online marketing and another is through offline marketing.
Online Marketing covers Websites, Pay per click campaigns, Email Marketing, Search Engine Optimisation and Article Marketing. Offline Marketing covers radio and TV adverts, magazine adverts, newspapers adverts, leaflet advertising, promotional pens, mugs and t-shirts. These days there is one more way of promoting your business that is through Social Media Marketing which comes under Online Marketing. Social Media tools such as Facebook, Digg, Twitter, StumbleUpon, Delicious, Reddit and many more has helped many big brands to build their followings on their profile. This works by creating a massive amount of followers who follow their comments and threads under their profiles, so whenever you write a new thread or comment about your current product offers, they will read it. Social Media is at the top at the moment and sooner the small businesses get into this the better it is for them.

Your New Online Business: Positioning

If you are in the process of creating an online business, the last thing that you want is to add to your “to do” list. However there is something that requires your attention during these early stages of business planning.
While the term positioning sounds like just another example of marketing jargon, its importance can’t be stressed too much. Positioning is simplyidentifying what there is about your business that makes it stand apart from all of your competitors–and, of course, communicating that to all of your potential customers.
-Service – Nearly all businesses claim they have great service. If you can provide exceptional service compared to your competitors, your customers will remember you. I’ll never forget calling a sour plumber to try to get him to my home for an emergency on a weekend. He acted like he didn’t want my business and then told me it was going to be 0 for him just to show up, no thanks. I called roto-router who gave me amazing service, a guarantee, and the whole bill was less than 0. I now use that company for all my plumbing.
-Features and Appealing Benefits – Positioning is not just about what makes you different, it’s also about what you emphasize. Folgers announces to the world that it’s “mountain grown coffee” ( a feature). Guess what? Any brand of coffee is mountain grown. Folgers just claimed this feature first. What is there that none of your competitors are talking about?
-Price Point – Not everyone can offer the lowest prices and still make a profit. But you must be certain to convince your prospect that your products and services are worth whatever it is that you charge.
-Negative Features- People probably find some things at your competitors annoying. Maybe they feel that they have to wait too long to get an answer to their questions. If that’s a good angle for you, try not phrasing it as a special positive feature, but frame it as a negative that they don’t have to worry about with your business. For example, you might say, “You’ll never have to wait for an answer to your questions with us.”
-Credibility – Some businesses like to brag about their long history. If your business is new, you need to find a different way to establish your credentials. Perhaps you might say that you bring fresh ideas to your industry or niche. Adding logos from recognizable, trusted sources helps as well. Join the Chamber of Commerce or Better Business Bureau. Work to obtain the endorsement of a magazine or a professional organization. Display those endorsements prominently. Plan for the future by soliciting testimonials.
-Others – Literally anything that differentiates you from your competitors can be part of your positioning strategy – your clever URL, your hours of live help, the way your site looks. Small business owners need to think creatively here.
Proper and effective positioning is important from the first day that you open your website for business. Traffic to your website is a precious resource. You must be certain that your unique position is visible and clear as soon as that first potential customer arrives. After all, you need that person to return time after time. You’ll have time later to worry about other aspects of your continuing online business development, but the time is now for clear positioning.
Why Articles Will Always be a Great Variant of Traffic and Exposure
One of the biggest debates on the cyberspace is as to whether or not articles still work as a form of SEO, brand name exposure and overall marketing. For so long people have been using articles to increase their search positions from the links that they are able to return. A lot of big name SEOs swear that it no longer works.
But putting it simply article marketing is still probably one of the most effective forms of promotion online. There is one reason why article directories still rank quite high and it simply boils down to offering unique content that search engines crave.
If a web master is producing a constant flow of relevant and unique content and distributing it through the world wide web, why should they not be rewarded for that? They are basically establishing themselves as an authority figure in their niche. As well as this they are also helping other visitors educate themselves.
The only thing I would say is be careful where you submit too although article directories still work there are some directories that could be classed as a bad neighbourhood. This could be because of many reasons, they could simply be listing nothing but duplicate content, or have no moderation in place, so they will be open to spammers. Besides from this they may have also been hit for selling links if that is something that they actively practice.
But summing up article marketing is by all odds one of the better ways to establish a new site, build a brand and build exposure. Just make sure that you are creating unique content and your rewards will be great. The saying content is king was created for a specific reason and that was because it actually works.

Promoting A Company

Business want and need to promote not only their products but also their names. You can have a well marketed, high quality product, but if people don’t trust your company then it will be much harder to sell them your products. This is why companies like Nike or Telechart 2007 work so hard to protect their brands. These companies spend millions and millions of dollars to make themselves recognizable by a mere “swoosh” or symbol. That symbol lets people know that what they are getting is a high quality product and that it can be trusted. It is rational that a company doesn’t want manufacturers getting in the way of their strong brand because then people might see the product as less valuable.
So why don’t all companies build up a brand. Well there are a few reasons for this. To begin, creating a brand can be prohibitively costly. It can cost millions of dollars of investment to establish even a modestly recognizable brand. A brand is a tender thing, it can be broken by a simple mistake or one bad product. Secondly, not all companies want to establish a band. As an example, when a company makes a cheap quality product they wouldn’t want their name associated with that product because then people won’t buy the next junk product they put out. Who would want a brand like that built up for their company? Simply you wouldn’t.
Another great type of companies that like to build their brands are stock investing companies. That type of company usually has a strong brand for the reason that that is how they make money, through their reputation. People allow investing companies to handle their money because they have had strong returns in the past. If companies didn’t have this type of reputation they could just do it alone with some simple stock trading software.
Anyway you slice it, branding is important to many companies. It is the only way they can properly market their brands and make the sales they need. That is why the law protects company brands so strongly.
